On this page, you will find a brief explanation of what I have learned and what I want to improve for each of the expertise areas. Click here for a deeper inside on my journey and how I incorporated the areas in my design process.

Creativity and Aesthetics (C&A)

My first year of Industrial Design has really helped me discover my personal style and figure out how to get my creativity flowing. During the year, I’ve worked on a lot of assignments where I spent a lot of time brainstorming, prototyping, and searching for inspiration. Working with these creativity processes helped me understand what I find visually appealing and helped me develop my personal aesthetic. Something I could work on some more is researching the topic first instead of going straight to prototyping.

User and Society  (U&S)

During the Human Centered Design course I got to realize how important User & Society is in design. I learned who to improve the user experience and why it’s so important to consider different stakeholders when creating a product. One of the biggest take aways was understanding the value of user testing. Although interviewing works really well for me, creating effective questionnaires is something I could still improve, so I can get more information in a shorter amount of time.

Business and Entrepreneurship (B&E)

As I’m currently diving deeper into Business and Entrepreneurship. I ask myself questions like: What do people actually need? Why should someone choose my product over another? While designing something for other people, I have realized that it's not enough for a product to just work, it also has to be something unique that people want to buy and share with others.

Math, Data and Computing (MD&C)

During Foundation of Data Analytics I learned how to read plots and pick the correct plots for the type of data you want to sort. Although, this area is quite difficult to me and I had hard time coding the plots, it was very interesting to see how large datasets could be turned into very easy-to-read graphs and it motivated me to keep working on coding skills.

Technology and Realization (T&R)

Technology and Realization made me think about the types of prototyping I should use in order to realize my ideas. The levels of prototyping are endless and it's important to know what type of prototype to make in each phase. Sometimes, I find myself working on a low-fidelity prototype for too long and I have to learn how to expect that prototypes do not need to be perfect.
